For the FYM program we are studying the book of Ester. When i recieved this assignment i could just remember being taught this story in vacation bible school, while the guys were wrestling and all the girls sitting together looking at the teacher and taking in every word she was saying. But as i read this book all i could think about was obedience. Theย Queenย Vashti was taken off her throne because she was disobedient even though i think she had a good reason, and so do we most of the time when we are disobedient with God. But in the story of Ester obedience pays. Ester knew she was put as Queen for a reason and a purpose, and she took the risk required to be obedient, even if it meant her life. As i read this story i just pray for God to give me obedience, but radical obedience. I hear stories of people across the world and these great things are happening through them because of their obedience. The key to obedience is being spirit-filled. To be led by the Holy spirit at all times, but even then one has the choice to be obedient. I dont know exactly what a radically obedient christian looks like, but i know i want it. Ester was able to spare her people through her obedience. The bible says no ear has heard, no eye has seen, no mind has concieved what the Lord has in store for those who love Him. Even Ester struggled with being obedient. but when she was in doubt she prayed. She sent her servants to fast and pray for three nights and days. She did not do it on her own, she relied on the guidance of the Holy Spirit to do the will of God.
