its been a month and a half into the 9 month program. I know my city streets by now, I belong to a youth group and a small group. I teach english, i have friends all over the city. When I walk around the city to the local corner store I get called by atleast 3 people, and usually by people I don´t remember. Me and my housemate are really getting along. I know where the cheapest empanadas are, where to go check the Red Sox score, where I can get the best deal on internet, and where to go get some really good chocolate cake. The better half of the month was more of missing my city and comparing it to where I live now, but I´ve settled in and started to make San Juan my home. I´ve been to birthday party´s, salsa classes, dinner on our roof top, and hangig out at the local parks. We have had our share of fun and funny times times with the locals and within our group.
San Juan is a small city, but has plenty of everything. There are a fair share of different type of people. There are middle class people, really poor people that live in house made out of tin cans, and professional higher class people. There are alot of unattened children, confused yoth, and purposeless adults. Jobs mean either hard labor or attending school. Msny adults were taken out of school to go help either work or beg for money, so they don´t have the oppurtunity to go to university. We have a fair share of people to minister to. PLease pray that the Lord wil be our comfort and for the Lord to unveil the eyes of the people here in San Juan.
